1. Who we are
Varsitywell is a South African graduate talent platform connecting university graduates with employers. References to “we”, “us”, or “Varsitywell” in this policy refer to the operator of varsitywell.co.za.
By creating an account or using our platform you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
2. Data you provide
When you register and build a profile on Varsitywell you provide us with personal information such as your name, email address, educational history, skills, and contact details. This data is provided voluntarily and belongs to you. We hold it on your behalf solely to operate the platform and deliver the services you have requested.
You may update or delete your profile at any time. On deletion, your personal data is removed from active search results immediately and purged from our systems within 30 days.
3. How we use your data
We use the information you provide to:
- Display your profile to subscribed employers searching for graduates.
- Send authentication emails (magic links) and important account notifications.
- Process payments and pay out your earnings from profile unlocks.
- Improve the platform through aggregated, anonymised analytics.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Platform promotion and profile boosting
By registering on Varsitywell you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to use your profile — including your name, degree, field of study, headline, and skills — to promote the platform and help you get noticed. This means we may, from time to time:
- Feature your profile in advertisements, social media posts, or other marketing materials that showcase the quality of graduates on the platform.
- Boost your profile beyond the platform by sharing it via paid advertising, job boards, or partner channels to increase your visibility with potential employers.
- Use anonymised or aggregated profile data in research, reports, and promotional content about South African graduate employment trends.
We will never use sensitive personal information (phone number, bank details, academic transcripts) in any promotional activity. If you do not wish your profile to be featured in marketing materials, you may opt out by contacting us at hello@varsitywell.co.za. Opting out does not affect your ability to use the platform.
5. No recruiters
Varsitywell is not open to recruitment agencies or third-party recruiters. The platform is reserved exclusively for direct employers — companies that hire graduates into their own workforce — and for the graduates themselves.
Recruitment agencies, staffing firms, and individuals who represent companies other than their own employer of record are prohibited from registering or using employer accounts. Any account found to be operated by a recruiter will be suspended without notice and any payments processed will be subject to reversal.
If you are unsure whether your use case qualifies, please contact us before subscribing.
6. No data mining or scraping
Automated scraping, harvesting, or systematic extraction of data from Varsitywell is strictly prohibited. All data on this platform belongs to the individual users who submitted it. Varsitywell holds that data as a custodian, at the user's request, for the purpose of operating this platform only.
You may not:
- Use bots, crawlers, scrapers, or any automated means to access, copy, or index platform content.
- Export, aggregate, or reuse profile data to populate, enrich, or enhance any other platform, database, CRM, or service — whether commercial or otherwise.
- Use data obtained from Varsitywell to contact individuals outside of the platform without their explicit consent.
Violation of this clause may result in immediate account termination and may attract civil liability under South African law, including the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA).
7. Data security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed credentials, and access controls. Private profile information (contact details, bank details, academic transcripts) is only accessible to employers who have paid to unlock a specific profile.
Despite these measures, no system is completely secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique email address and to notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.
8. Cookies and advertising technology
Session cookies. We use session cookies to keep you logged in and to protect against cross-site request forgery.
Google Ads measurement. We use the Google Ads tag (gtag.js) to measure the performance of our advertising campaigns. This tag loads a script from Google on every page and allows Google to record when a user who clicked one of our ads subsequently registers or takes another action on Varsitywell. Google may set cookies or use similar technologies for this purpose. Google's collection and use of information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Enhanced Conversions. We use Google's Enhanced Conversions feature to improve the accuracy of our advertising measurement. When you complete a registration or other conversion action on the platform, we send a one-way hashed (SHA-256) version of your email address to Google. Google uses this hashed value to match your action to an ad click — it cannot be reversed to recover your email address. No other personal information is transmitted as part of this process.
Opting out.You can limit or opt out of Google's advertising measurement at any time by:
- Adjusting your settings at adssettings.google.com
- Installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
- Using your browser's built-in privacy or ad-blocking controls.
Opting out of advertising measurement does not affect your ability to use the platform or your earnings from profile unlocks.
9. Your rights under POPIA
As a South African resident you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your account and personal data.
- Object to the processing of your information for direct marketing.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@varsitywell.co.za.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users by email of any material changes. Continued use of the platform after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
